Moonshadow Mobile, Inc. is proud to announce that it has been selected as a finalist for the ITS America 2021 Innovation Challenge sponsored by Amazon AWS.  We will present our Moonshadow Live Traffic solution at the ITS America conference in Charlotte, NC on Thursday December 9.

Vehicle movement when Hurricane Sally landed in Mobile, AL

The theme for the 2021 ITS Innovation Challenge is Sustainability and Resilience; how can new cloud-based solutions help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience in transportation.  With Moonshadow Live Traffic we can provide Departments of Transportation, Emergency Responders as well as the public with very accurate information about road congestion and incidents in under one minute by using data from connected vehicles.  Moonshadow Live Traffic uses the patented DB4IoT technology to process real-time data from vehicles 10-100x faster and it can process data from millions of vehicles in real-time to generate speed maps, travel times and volume estimates.  Whereas current solutions often use a combination of modeled and observed data Moonshadow Live Traffic only uses data that was observed just seconds earlier inside vehicles on the road.  The data can show the exact location of traffic incidents within a minute after it happened to give traffic managers more time to route traffic around the incident or adjust dynamic speed signs.  Stop-and-go driving is among the most pollutive traffic and by adjusting speeds and rerouting traffic faster GHG emissions are reduced.  Timely incident information is also very important for emergency responders – every minute that responders reach incidents faster lives are saved.

Moonshadow Live Traffic can also play an important role for Resilience.  As the planet warms extreme weather events will become more severe and more frequent.   Our solution can show which roads are blocked and which are open during evacuations.  This information is extremely important to emergency responders as well as the public.  Last year Moonshadow performed a Proof of Concept for six states in the Eastern Transportation Coalition (ETC).  We used live data from 2.5 million vehicles on the Wejo platform to provide live traffic information during hurricane evacuations.  Wejo provided us with 7.5 Billion vehicle updates per day – during peak hours Moonshadow would receive 200,000 waypoint records per second.  The entire solution was running on a single server – which shows the power of Moonshadow’s patented DB4IoT technology.

Please stay tuned for the 2021 ITS America Innovation Challenge on Thursday December 9.
